3.39

問僧：「看什麼經？」僧拈起經，師云：「鬼窟裏出頭。」僧云：「和尚見箇什麼？」師云：「贓物見在。」無對。代云：「仁義道中，不合如此。」

He asked a monk, "What sūtra are you reading?"
The monk held up the sūtra.
The Master said, "Poking your head out of a ghost cave."
The monk said, "What does the Upādhyāya see?"
The Master said, "The stolen goods are right here."
There was no reply.
Answering on their behalf, [the Master] said, "On the path of benevolence and righteousness, one ought not to be like this."
