3.51

問僧：「甚處來？」僧云：「般柴來。」師云：「般得多少轉一宿覺？」僧云：「二十轉。」師云：「爾為什麼打落當門齒？」無對。師便打云：「學語之流。」代云：「也知和尚佛法身心。」又代前語云：「般柴早是辛苦。」

He asked a monk, "Where have you come from?"
The monk said, "I have come from hauling firewood."
The Master said, "How many loads have you hauled to awaken in a single night?"
The monk said, "Twenty loads."
The Master said, "Why did you knock out your front teeth?"
There was no reply.
The Master then struck him, saying, "A fellow who merely mimics words!"
Answering on their behalf, [the Master] said, "I also know the Upādhyāya's Dharma-body and mind."
Also, answering on behalf of the earlier statement, he said, "Hauling firewood was already hard work."
