3.79

問僧：「甚處來？」云：「荊南來。」師云：「夏在什麼處？」僧云：「分金。」師云：「有事相借問得麼？」僧云：「便請。」師云：「鷂子過新羅。」僧無對。代云：「是。」於借問處代云：「鷂子過新羅。」

[The Master] asked a monk, "Where have you come from?"
[The monk] said, "I have come from Jingnan."
The Master said, "Where did you spend the summer retreat?"
The monk said, "At Fenjin."
The Master said, "May I ask you something?"
The monk said, "Please do."
The Master said, "The sparrowhawk has crossed to Silla."
The monk had no reply.
Answering on their behalf, he said, "Yes."
In place of the moment he asked to inquire, he answered on their behalf, "The sparrowhawk has crossed to Silla."
