1.45

師參古堤和尚，古堤云：「去，汝無佛性。」師叉手近前三步應諾。古堤笑云：「子！甚麼處得此三昧來？」師云：「我從耽源處得名，溈山處得地。」古堤云：「莫是溈山的子麼？」師云：「世諦即不無，佛法即不敢。」師却問：「和尚從甚處得此三昧？」古堤云：「我從章敬處得此三昧。」師嘆云：「不可思議，來者難為湊泊。」

The Master called upon Upādhyāya Guti. Guti said, "Go away! You have no buddhadhātu!"
The Master folded his hands, stepped forward three paces, and answered, "Yes?"
Guti smiled and said, "Son! Where did you attain this samādhi?"
The Master said, "From Danyuan I obtained the name, and from Guishan I obtained the ground."
Guti said, "Might you not be a true son of Guishan?"
The Master said, "In terms of conventional truth, it is not absent; but in terms of the Buddhadharma, I would not dare [claim it]."
The Master then asked, "Where did the Upādhyāya attain this samādhi?"
Guti said, "I attained this samādhi from Zhangjing."
The Master sighed and said, "Inconceivable! Those who come find it hard to approach."
