問：「古人道見色便見心，禪床是色，請和尚離却色，指學人心。」師云：「那箇是禪床？指出來看。」僧無對。（玄覺云：「忽然被伊却指禪床，作麼生對伊？」有僧云：「却請和尚道。」玄覺代拊掌三下。）

A monk asked, "The ancients said that seeing form is seeing mind. The meditation seat is form; please, upādhyāya, depart from form and point out the student's mind." The Master said, "Which one is the meditation seat? Point it out and let us see." The monk had no reply. (Xuanjue said, "If he had suddenly pointed to the meditation seat, how would you respond to him?" A monk said, "Please say, upādhyāya." Xuanjue substituted by clapping his hands three times.)
