Guishan asked the Master, "Regarding the story of Baizhang visiting Mazu a second time, what were the intentions of these two venerable elders?" The Master said, "This demonstrates the great dynamic function and great activity." Guishan said, "Mazu produced eighty-four good spiritual friends; how many attained the great dynamic function, and how many attained the great activity?" The Master said, "Baizhang attained the great dynamic function, Huangbo attained the great activity, and the rest were all masters who guide and instruct." Guishan said, "Just so, just so."
