舉五峯問僧：「甚麼處來？」僧云：「莊上來。」五峯云：「汝還見牛麼？」僧云：「見。」五峯云：「見左角？見右角？」僧無語。五峯代云：「見無左右。」師別云：「還辨左右麼？」

The Master brought up Wufeng asking a monk, "Where have you come from?" The monk said, "From the estate." Wufeng said, "Did you see the ox?" The monk said, "I saw it." Wufeng said, "Did you see the left horn, or the right horn?" The monk had no words. Wufeng substituted: "I saw that there is neither left nor right." The Master gave an alternative: "Did you discern left and right?"
