1.79

奯上座因到百丈。百丈云：「闍黎有事相借問，得麼？」奯云：「幸自非言，何須譗𧫡？」百丈云：「收得安南，又憂塞北。」奯擘開胸云：「與麼？不與麼？」百丈云：「要且難搆，要且難搆。」奯云：「知即得，知即得。」師云：「若有人知此二人落處，不妨奇特。若辯不得，大似日中迷露。」

Sthavira Huo once went to Baizhang. Baizhang said, "Ācārya, I have a matter to ask you; may I?" Huo said, "Fortunately it is not about words, so why make clamorous chatter?" Baizhang said, "Having pacified Annan, one worries again about the northern frontier." Huo tore open his chest and said, "Like this? Or not like this?" Baizhang said, "After all, it is hard to grasp; after all, it is hard to grasp." Huo said, "Knowing is enough; knowing is enough." The Master said, "If anyone knows the destination of these two men, he is certainly extraordinary. If one cannot discern it, it is very much like losing one's way in bright daylight."
