舉：「有新到，謂趙州云：『某甲從長安來，橫擔一條拄杖，不曾撥著一人。』趙州云：『自是大德拄杖短。』僧無對。」師代云：「呵呵。」

[The Master] cited: "A newly arrived monk said to Zhaozhou, 'I have come from Chang'an carrying a walking staff horizontally, and have not brushed against a single person.' Zhaozhou said, 'That is simply because your staff is too short, Venerable One.' The monk had no answer." The Master spoke in his place: "Hehe!"
