因僧來參次，師以手指簾，尋有二僧，齊去捲簾，師云：「一得一失。」（東禪齊云：「上座作麼生會？有云：『為伊不明旨，便去捲簾。』亦有道：『指者即會，不指而去者即失。』恁麼會，還可不可？既不許恁麼會，且問上座：『阿那箇得，阿那箇失？』」黃龍清云：「法眼如鏌鎁在手，殺活臨時。二僧既齊捲簾，且道，那箇得？那箇失？還會麼？世事但將公道斷，人心難與月輪齊。」）

Once, when monks came for an interview, the master pointed his finger at the screen. Immediately two monks went together to roll up the screen. The master said, "One gains, one loses." (Dongshan Qi said, "How do the sthaviras understand this? Some say, 'Because they did not understand the essential point, they went to roll up the screen.' Others say, 'The one who was pointed at understood; the one who went without being pointed at lost.' Is understanding it like that permissible or not? Since such understanding is not permitted, let me ask the sthaviras: Which one gained, and which one lost?" Huanglong Qing said, "Fayan is like [holding] the Moxie sword in hand, killing and giving life according to the occasion. Since the two monks rolled up the screen together, tell me: Which one gained? Which one lost? Do you still understand? Worldly matters are merely settled by fairness; human minds can hardly be as uniform as the disk of the moon.")
