僧問：「指即不問，如何是月？」師云：「阿那箇是汝不問底指。」又僧問：「月即不問，如何是指？」師云：「月。」云：「學人問指，和尚為甚麼對月？」師云：「為汝問指。」

A monk asked, "Not asking about the finger, what is the moon?" The Master said, "Which is that finger you do not ask about?" Another monk asked, "Not asking about the moon, what is the finger?" The Master said, "The moon." [The monk] said, "This student asks about the finger; why does the upādhyāya answer with the moon?" The Master said, "Because you ask about the finger."
