師指凳子云：「識得橙子，周匝有餘。」（雲門云：「識得橙子，天地懸殊。」雪竇云：「澤廣藏山，理能伏豹。」圓悟云：「雪竇如此道，未審是明他語、點他語？是褒是貶？」徑山杲云：「識得凳子，好剃頭，洗脚。雖然如是，錯會者多。」）

The master pointed to a stool and said, "If you recognize the stool, there is more than enough all around." (Yunmen said, "If you recognize the stool, heaven and earth are far apart." Xuedou said, "A wide marsh hides a mountain; principle can subdue a leopard." Yuanwu said, "Xuedou spoke like this; I wonder, was he clarifying his words, or criticizing his words? Was it praise or censure?" Jingshan Gao said, "If you recognize the stool, it is good for shaving your head and washing your feet. Even though it is like this, many misunderstand.")
