A monk asked, "What is 'coming from within the real'?"
The master said, "Lotus blossoms open one by one on dry land."
"How is it after opening?"
The master said, "Golden pistils and silver threads receive the jade dew; the eminent monk does not sit on the Phoenix Terrace."
"What is 'the apparent within the real'?"
The master said, "After the jade rabbit is bright in the early night, the golden rooster must announce the dawn before the fifth watch."
"What is 'the real within the apparent'?"
The master said, "A tiny sprout grows into a great tree; a single drop of water becomes rivers and oceans."
"What is 'arriving within both'?"
The master said, "Spirit is not acquired from heaven and earth; how could a hero rely on the turning of the four seasons?"
"What is 'reaching within both'?"
The master said, "The royal maiden throws the shuttle, the loom clatters; the stone man beats the drum, sounding boom-boom."
