僧問：「如何是接初機底句？」師云：「汝是行脚僧。」「如何是辨衲僧底句？」師云：「西方日出卯。」「如何是正令行底句？」師云：「千里持來呈舊面。」「如何是立乾坤底句？」師云：「北俱盧州長粳米，食者無貪亦無嗔。」

A monk asked: "What is the phrase that receives beginners?" The Master said: "You are an itinerant monk." "What is the phrase that discerns a patch-robed monk?" The Master said: "In the west, the sun rises at the hour of the rabbit." "What is the phrase where the authentic decree is executed?" The Master said: "Brought from a thousand miles away to present its old face." "What is the phrase that establishes heaven and earth?" The Master said: "In Uttarakuru grows non-glutinous rice; those who eat it have neither greed nor anger."
