上堂云：「汾陽有三決，衲僧難辨別，擬擬問如何？」拄杖驀頭掣，僧問：「如何是三決？」師便打，僧禮拜，師云：「與爾一時頌出：

Ascending the hall, he said: "Fenyang has three determinations, / Difficult for patch-robed monks to distinguish. / As soon as you hesitate and ask how, / The staff strikes straight at your head." A monk asked: "What are the three determinations?" The Master struck him at once. The monk bowed. The Master said: "I shall present them in verse for you all at once:
