上堂，拈起拄杖云：「識得這箇，參學事畢。還識麼？莫道喚甚麼作拄杖，如此之輩，如塵似沙。許爾商量，作麼生開口？試道看。」

Ascending the hall, [the Master] held up his staff and said: "If you recognize this, your affair of studying and inquiring is complete. Do you recognize it yet? Do not say, 'What do you call a staff?' Those of that sort are like dust and sand. Allowing you to deliberate: how will you open your mouth? Try to speak and see."
