Ascending the hall, he said: "Overturning Mount Sumeru, drying up the great ocean, fish and dragons transform, birds soar, all rushing and filling the emptiness. Just at such a time, if the Buddha were to poke his head out and be demoted to another world, tell me: would there still be a share of practice or not? Point it out for me to see! Is there? Is there?" Just as a monk bowed, the Master struck him and said, "I have already entered the wild weeds for no reason; why must you also dig a pit on level ground, burying each other? Speak! Speak!" The monk was speechless. The Master gave a verse: / 'The World-Honored One sighs over your deluded seekings; / in pity and grief he cuts off the many streams. / Decisively do not let a fine hair stir; / Śrīmahādevī descends to praise the tranquil purity.'"
