1.84

問：「如何是賓？」師云：「禮拜甚慇勤。」「如何是主？」師云：「時中不運步。」「不賓不主時如何？」師云：「橫身當宇宙，誰是出頭人？」問：「一塵纔舉，大地全收。未審此意如何？」師云：「痛領一問。」「恁麼則全因此問。」師云：「收一問。」「禮拜遲違也。」師云：「不可更打爾。」以拂子敲禪床喝一聲。

A monk asked, "What is the guest?" The Master said, "Prostrating with great diligence." "What is the host?" The Master said, "Never moving a step at all times." "What about when there is neither guest nor host?" The Master said, "Stretching the body across the universe, who is the one sticking his head out?" He asked, "'As soon as a single dust particle is raised, the entire earth is completely gathered in.' I wonder, what is the meaning of this?" The Master said, "Painfully accepting a question." "In that case, it entirely relies on this question." The Master said, "Gathering in a question." "My prostrations were delayed." The Master said, "I should not strike you again." Striking the meditation couch with the whisk, he gave a shout.
