邑人崇齋慶賀請上堂，師云：「此日聲鐘擊鼓，禱祝焚香，聖凡共集，釋梵同臻，僧俗目前，更無別說，意為國恩，所以開演一乘，引導群迷，直言問答，只有如今。還有請問者麼？」

When the townsfolk made offerings of food to celebrate and requested [him] to ascend the hall, the Master said, "On this day, bells are rung and drums are beaten; prayers are offered and incense is burned. Sages and ordinary people assemble together; Śakra and Brahmā arrive alike. Before monastics and laypeople, there is no other discourse to be made; the intention is [to repay] the country's benevolence. Therefore, the One Vehicle is opened and expounded to guide the confused masses; direct words of question and answer exist only right now. Is there anyone who wishes to ask a question?"
