外道問佛：「不問有言，不問無言。」世尊良久，外道讚嘆云：「世尊大慈大悲，開我迷雲，令我得入。」外道去，阿難問佛：「外道有何所證，讚嘆而去。」世尊云：「如世良馬，見鞭影而行。」

A non-Buddhist asked the Buddha, "I do not ask about what has words; I do not ask about what is wordless."
The World-Honored One remained silent for a good while. The non-Buddhist praised him, saying, "The World-Honored One, in his great kindness and great compassion, has opened my clouds of delusion and enabled me to enter."
After the non-Buddhist departed, Ānanda asked the Buddha, "What did the non-Buddhist realize that he praised you and departed?"
The World-Honored One said, "Like a fine horse of the world, he moves upon seeing the shadow of the whip."
