「阿育王請賓頭盧齋，問：『承聞尊者親見佛來是否？』尊者以手擡眉示王云：『會麼？』王云：『不會。』『老僧親見佛來。』無對。」代云：「却勞尊者。」

"King Aśoka invited Piṇḍola to a vegetarian feast and asked: 'I have heard that you, venerable one, personally saw the Buddha; is that so?' The venerable one raised his eyebrows with his hands, showed the king, and said: 'Do you understand?' The king said: 'I do not understand.' [The venerable one said:] 'This old monk personally saw the Buddha.' [The king] had no answer." Replacing [the original words], he said: "I have troubled the venerable one once more."
