「西天外道問一入定僧云：『輪王種眾生種，非佛非羅漢，不受後有身，是什麼義？』羅漢無語，遂却入定問彌勒，彌勒為答。却出定來，如彌勒云：『譬如陶師，挻埴成器。』」代云：「却勞尊者往復神用。」

"A non-Buddhist in Western India asked a monk who had entered samādhi: 'The lineage of a wheel-turning king, the lineage of sentient beings, neither a Buddha nor an arhat, not receiving a future rebirth—what does this mean?' The arhat had no words, so he went back into samādhi to ask Maitreya, and Maitreya answered for him. Emerging from samādhi, he replied as Maitreya had said: 'It is like a potter kneading clay to form a vessel.'" Replacing [the original words], he said: "I have troubled the venerable one to exert his spiritual power back and forth."
