「馬鳴問迦毘摩羅：『汝有何聖？』云：『我化大海，不足為難。』又問：『汝化性海得否？』云：『若化性海，我當不得。』」別云：「許即不讓。」

"Aśvaghoṣa asked Kapimala: 'What sagehood do you possess?' He said: 'For me to transform the great ocean is not difficult.' [Aśvaghoṣa] asked again: 'Can you transform the ocean of nature?' He said: 'If it comes to transforming the ocean of nature, I cannot manage it.'" Differing [from the original words], he said: "If conceded, then no yield."
