「肅宗問訊，師都不見，帝曰：『朕是一國天子，何得無些子顧視？』師云：『陛下見面前虛空麼？』云：『見。』『還曾與陛下眨眼麼？』」代云：「早是不著便。」

"Emperor Suzong paid his respects, but the Master did not look at him at all. The emperor said, 'I am the Son of Heaven of the whole nation; how can you not pay me the slightest heed?' The Master said, 'Does Your Majesty see the empty space before you?' [The emperor] said, 'I see it.' 'Has it ever blinked at Your Majesty?'" Replacing [the original words], he said, "Already it was out of place."
