「僧問六祖：『黃梅意旨，什麼人得？』祖云：『會佛法者得。』『和尚還得麼？』師云：『我不得。』『和尚為什麼不得？』祖云：『我不會佛法。』」代云：「方知密旨難傳。」

"A monk asked the Sixth Patriarch, 'Who obtained the purport of Huangmei?' The Patriarch said, 'One who understands the Buddhadharma obtains it.' 'Did the Venerable also obtain it?' The Master said, 'I did not obtain it.' 'Why did the Venerable not obtain it?' The Patriarch said, 'I do not understand the Buddhadharma.'" Replacing [the original words], he said, "Only then is it known that the secret purport is difficult to transmit."
