「老宿問經論僧云：『疏鈔解義，廣略如何？』云：『鈔即解疏，疏即解經。』師云：『經又解什麼？』」代云：「廣略不及。」

"An elder asked a monk of the scriptures and treatises: 'How do commentaries and subcommentaries explain meanings in extensive and concise ways?' He said: 'The subcommentary explains the commentary, and the commentary explains the scripture.' The Master said: 'And what does the scripture explain?'" Replacing [the monk's words], he said: "Extensive and concise do not reach it."
