問：「無為無事人，猶是金鎖難。未審有什麼過？」師云：「一字入公門，九年拔不出。」（《聯燈》此文次曰，云：「學人未曉，乞師方便。」師云：「大庾嶺頭，笑却成哭。」）

A monk asked: "A person of non-action and no concerns is still in the difficulty of golden chains. I wonder, what fault is there?" The Master said: "One character enters the government office, and for nine years it cannot be extracted." (The Liandeng adds to this: The monk said: "This student does not understand; I beg the Master for an expedient." The Master said: "At the top of Mount Dayu, laughter turns to tears.")
