問：「德山棒，臨濟喝，直至如今，少人拈掇。請師拈掇。」曰：「千鈞之弩，不為鼷鼠而發機。」云：「作家宗師，今朝有在。」師便喝，僧禮拜，師曰：「五湖衲子，一錫禪人，未到同安，不妨疑著。」

A monk asked: “Deshan's staff and Linji's shout—down to the present day, few people have taken them up. Please, Master, take them up.” The Master said: “A crossbow of a thousand jun is not released for a tiny mouse.” The monk said: “An adept master is present today!” The Master then shouted. The monk bowed. The Master said: “Patch-robed monks of the five lakes, Chan practitioners of a single staff, before arriving at Tong'an, you may well doubt.”
