師住歸宗時，遣化至虔上，還白曰：「虔有信士劉君，臨行送至郊外，祝曰：『為我求老師偈一首，為子孫世世福田。』」明年師以偈寄之。

When the Master resided at Guizong, he sent an alms-gathering monk to Qian Prefecture. On his return, the monk reported: "In Qian there is a faithful layman, Mr. Liu. At my departure he escorted me to the suburbs and prayed: 'Please request a gāthā from the Venerable Teacher for me, to serve as a field of merit for my descendants generation after generation.'" The following year, the Master sent a gāthā to him.
