上堂，云：「僧堂前撞鐘鐘鳴，法堂上擊鼓鼓響，三世諸佛，在鼓聲裡轉大法輪，汝等諸人，向什麼處安身立命？有一般杜撰衲僧，不識觸淨，便道：東西南北，上下四維，今日七明日八，僧堂裡喫飯，寮舍裡向火，或向面前劃一劃。若與麼，違背四恩猶自可，辜負西來碧眼胡。」擊禪床，下座。

Ascending the hall, [the Master] said: "In front of the Saṅgha hall, the bell is struck and the bell rings; up in the Dharma hall, the drum is beaten and the drum sounds. Within the sound of the drum, the buddhas of the three times turn the great wheel of Dharma. In what place do all of you settle your body and establish your life? There is a sort of bogus patch-robed monk who does not distinguish between touched and pure, and promptly says: 'East, west, south, and north, above, below, and the four intermediate quarters; today is the seventh, tomorrow the eighth; eating rice in the Saṅgha hall, warming oneself at the fire in the dormitory,' or draws a line in front of his face. If it is like this, violating the four debts of gratitude is still pardonable, but failing the blue-eyed barbarian who came from the west is not!" Striking the Chan seat, he descended from the seat.
