上堂云：「但知喫果子，莫管樹曲彔，不識曲彔樹，爭解喫果子？不過祖師關，爭會敵生死？如何是祖師關？拈却大案山。」

Ascending the hall, he said: "Only knowing how to eat fruit, / You pay no heed to the crookedness of the tree; / If you do not know the crooked tree, / How can you know how to eat the fruit? / If you do not pass the ancestral teachers' checkpoint, / How will you contend with life and death? / What is the ancestral teachers' checkpoint? / Taking away the great Anshan peak!"
