上堂云：「昨宵年暮夜，今朝是歲旦。都大尋常日，世人生異見，不解逐根元，只管尋枝蔓。新舊只如今，子細分明看，若也更商量，秦時鐸鑠鑽。」

Ascending the hall, [the Master] said: "Last night was the eve of the closing year; this morning is the first day of the year. / It is altogether an ordinary day, yet people of the world give rise to strange views, / Not knowing how to pursue the root and source, but merely searching for branches and vines. / New and old are just as it is right now; look carefully and distinctly; / If you deliberate further, it is a chisel of the Qin dynasty!"
