到興化，上堂云：「世事冗如麻，空門路轉賒，青松林下客，幾個得歸家。共唱胡笳曲，分開五葉花，幸逢諸道友，同上白牛車。大眾！車在者裏，牛在什麼處？芳草渡頭尋不見，夜來依舊宿蘆花。」下座，甘露資長老，把師住云：「舒州管界，元來有箇草賊。」師云：「和尚也須隄防。」資擬議，師便拓開。

Arriving at Xinghua, [the Master] ascended the hall and said: "Worldly affairs are as tangled as hemp; / The road to the gate of emptiness turns ever distant. / Guests beneath the green pine grove, / How many have managed to return home? / Together singing the barbarian reed-pipe tune, / Spreading open the five-petaled flower; / Fortunately meeting all friends of the Way, / Together riding the great white ox cart. Assembly! The cart is right here; where is the ox? One cannot find it at the fragrant-grass ferry; / As night comes, it rests as before among the reed blossoms." Stepping down from the seat, Elder Zi of Ganlu held the Master fast and said: "Within the jurisdiction of Shuzhou, there turns out to be a grass-bandit!" The Master said: "You too must be on guard, Venerable Priest." As Zi hesitated in thought, the Master pushed him away.
