謝典座上堂云：「小繩錢貫，大繩井索，日急要用笊籬木杓，雖然破家具，應用有處。著著錯，南北東西水洒不著。」

Ascending the hall to thank the head cook, he said: "Small ropes string cash; large ropes draw from wells. In urgent daily needs one must have strainers and wooden ladles. Though broken utensils, they have their proper applications. Move after move goes wrong; north, south, east, and west, water cannot be splashed on it."
