Ascending the hall, he cited: "Fengxue said, 'If a single speck of dust is established, the state flourishes and the rustic old man frowns; if a single speck of dust is not established, the state perishes and the rustic old man sings songs.' Taiping is not so: if a single speck of dust is established, the grass in front of the Dharma hall grows ten feet deep; if a single speck of dust is not established, it is laying brocade over flowers. Why is this? Have you not heard it said: 'Nine times nine is eighty-one; the poor fellow has finished suffering his punishment. Just as he intends to stretch out his legs to sleep, mosquitoes and fleas come out.'"
