1.78

為亡僧下火，舉起火把云：「火風四大互相違背，當此時節隨緣自在。」次日又為一僧舉起火把云：「昨日也恁麼，今日也恁麼，且道昨日是今日是？說甚是不是，儞看是甚火色。」

Applying fire for a deceased monk, he held up the torch and said, "The four great elements of fire and wind conflict with each other; at such a juncture, one is free according to conditions." The next day, he again held up the torch for a monk and said, "Yesterday was like this, today is also like this. Tell me, was yesterday right, or is today right? What talk of right or not right? Look at what colour the fire is!"
