端午上堂，僧問：「今朝五月五，權罷䒵芸鼓，雖是無事人，亦請燒一炷。」師云：「急急如律令。」進云：「也待小鬼做箇伎倆。」師云：「鍾馗嚇儞。」乃云：「今日端午節，白雲有一道神符也，有些小靈驗，不敢隱藏，舉似諸人。一要今上皇帝太皇太后聖躬萬歲，二要合朝卿相文武百官州縣寀寮常居祿位，三要萬民樂業雨順風調。有箇符使却來報白雲道：『諸處盡去遍，只為神通小，不柰一件事何？』遂問他是甚事？使云：『禪和子鼻孔遼天。』白雲向伊說：『莫道儞，我尚不柰何。』然雖如是，澤廣藏山，理能伏豹。畢竟如何？一抽三，二添四，黃牛角向天，八脚垂過鼻，急急。」下座。

Ascending the hall on the Dragon Boat Festival, a monk asked, "This morning is the fifth day of the fifth month; we provisionally cease the weeding drums. Although you are an unconcerned person, please burn a stick of incense." The Master said, "Urgent, urgent, as by the statutes and ordinances!" [The monk] stepped forward and said, "Waiting also for the little ghost to perform a trick." The Master said, "Zhong Kui frightens you." He then said, "Today is the Dragon Boat Festival. Baiyun has a divine talisman that is slightly efficacious; not daring to conceal it, I present it to you all. First, may the present Emperor and the Grand Empress Dowager live ten thousand years in their sagely bodies; second, may the ministers and chancellors of the court, civil and military officials, and prefectural and county officers long hold their salaries and positions; third, may the myriad common people delight in their occupations, with favorable rains and gentle winds. A talisman messenger came to report to Baiyun, saying, 'I have gone everywhere throughout all places, but because my supernormal powers are slight, there is one matter I can do nothing about.' Thereupon I asked him what matter it was. The messenger said, 'The nostrils of the Chan followers are raised toward the heavens.' Baiyun said to him, 'Do not speak only of you; even I can do nothing about it.' Even though it is so, a vast swamp conceals mountains, and principle can subdue a leopard. In the end, how is it? One draws three, two adds four; the yellow ox's horns point toward heaven, eight legs hang down past the nose. Swiftly, swiftly!" He descended the seat.
