Ever since the flower was held up at Vulture Peak and brought across the Pamir Mountains, monasteries across the world have branched out and spread their leaves. The ancient moon of Shishuang became full once more at Haihui; set amidst the ancestral mountain, it was imposing as a rival state. Who presided over this place? Master Yan was the man. Master Yan's lineage originated in the rivers of Shu, and his authority held sway over the plains of the Huai. Thrice he upheld the seal of the lineage, through two cycles of twelve years up to the present. Flowers in the sky bore fruit in the path of benevolence and righteousness; stone bamboo-shoots sprouted within the thickets of thorns. Do not doubt that the udumbara blossom appearing before you is merely understood as entangling vines! The superior man Keqin recorded the essentials of his words so that they might be praised and proclaimed. Daring to speak of real existence in the horns of a hare or the fur of a tortoise, one is ultimately ashamed of the unsuitability of a fox-fur coat with lamb sleeves.
