Ascending the hall, he cited: "An ancient said, 'One who is a kalyāṇamitra must drive off the plowman's ox and snatch away the hungry man's food. Driving off the plowman's ox causes his crops to flourish; snatching away the hungry man's food cuts off his hunger and emptiness forever.' When people in the assembly hear this cited, it is mostly like wind passing the ear. Since his ox is driven off, why do the crops flourish instead? Since his food is snatched away, why is hunger and emptiness cut off forever? Coming to this point, one must possess the hands and feet to drive off the plowman's ox and snatch away the hungry man's food; then give them a squeeze and a push, driving them to run into a blind corner, where one can well say to them: 'Good fortune does not come twice; misfortune never comes singly.'"
