舉：「長髭到石頭處，頭問：『什麼處來？』髭云：『嶺南來。』石頭云：『大庾嶺頭一鋪功德，還成就也未？』髭云：『成就久矣，只欠點眼。』石頭云：『莫要點眼麼？』髭云：『便請。』石頭垂下一足，髭便禮拜，石頭云：『見什麼道理便禮拜？』髭云：『如紅爐上一點雪。』石頭便休。」師拈云：「無眼功德，有什麼點處？德山和尚到龍潭問：『久響龍潭，及乎到來，潭又不見，龍又不現。』龍潭云：『子親到龍潭。』德山便休去。」師拈云：「將錯就錯。」又云：「大小德山。」

He brought up: "Changzi arrived at Shitou's place. Shitou asked: 'Where do you come from?' Zi said: 'From Lingnan.' Shitou said: 'Has the merit of the whole scene atop Dayu Ridge been completed yet?' Zi said: 'It has long been completed; it only lacks dotting the pupils.' Shitou said: 'Do you want the pupils dotted?' Zi said: 'Please do.' Shitou lowered one foot, and Zi bowed. Shitou said: 'What principle did you see that you bow?' Zi said: 'Like a flake of snow on a red furnace.' Shitou then rested." The Master commented: "For merit without eyes, what is there to dot? Upādhyāya Deshan arrived at Longtan and asked: 'I had long heard of Dragon Pool, but having arrived here, no pool is seen, nor does a dragon appear.' Longtan said: 'You have personally arrived at Dragon Pool.' Deshan then rested." The Master commented: "Taking an error and following through with it." He also said: "Big or small, Deshan!"
