僧問玄沙：「大耳三藏第三度為什麼不見國師？」玄沙云：「爾道前來兩度還見麼？」師拈云：「敗也敗也。」
A monk asked Xuansha: 'Why did the Tripiṭaka Master of Great Ears fail to see the National Teacher the third time?' Xuansha said: 'Do you say he saw him the previous two times?' The Master commented: "Defeated, defeated!"
