2.13

問新到：「尋師訪道？翫水遊山？」僧云：「謝和尚顧問。」師便喝：「鼻孔裏秖對我。」僧無對，師云：「苦殺人。來來，曾到雪竇麼？」僧云：「不曾到。」師打一棒云：「他後不得諱却。」

He asked a newcomer, "Seeking a master and inquiring after the Way? Or enjoying the waters and wandering the mountains?" The monk said, "I thank the upādhyāya for his kind inquiry." The master shouted, "Answer me from your nostrils!" The monk had no reply. The master said, "Wretched to death! Come here, come here! Have you ever been to Xuedou?" The monk said, "I have not." The master gave him a strike with the stick and said, "Later on you must not conceal this!"
