舉：「雲門大師示眾云：『爾若不相當，且覓箇入頭處，微塵諸佛在爾舌頭上，三藏聖教在爾脚跟底，不如誤去好。還有人誤得麼？出來對眾道看。』」師拈云：「然則養子之緣，爭奈壓良為賤。其間忽有不甘底出，掀倒繩床，豈不是大丈夫漢。然雖如此，且問據箇甚麼？」師驀拈起拄杖云：「洎合停囚長智。」擊繩床一下，便下座。

He brought up: "Great Master Yunmen instructed the assembly, saying: 'If you do not accord with it, just look for an entry point. The dust-mote Buddhas are on your tongue; the Tripiṭaka holy teachings are under your heels. It is better to go on erring. Is there still anyone who can err? Come out and speak before the assembly!'" The Master commented: "Although this was the condition for raising a son, how can one force the freeborn into slavery? If someone discontented had stepped forward then and overturned the rope-seat, would he not have been a great hero? Even though it is like this, let me ask: on what would he rely?" The Master suddenly raised his staff and said: "It nearly came to harboring a convict and increasing wisdom." Striking the rope-seat once, he then stepped down from the seat.
