上堂云：「虛空為鼓，須彌為槌，打者甚多，聽者極少。且問誰是解打者？莫謗鹽官好。只如南泉道：王老師不打者破鼓。法眼去王老師不打兩箇，既不奈何一箇，更是懡㦬。」

Ascending the hall, he said, "With empty space as the drum and Sumeru as the mallet, those who strike it are very many, but those who hear it are extremely few. Just tell me, who is one who understands how to strike it? Better not slander Yanguan. Take Nanquan saying, 'Old Teacher Wang does not strike this broken drum.' Fayan remarked, 'Old Teacher Wang does not strike two.' Since he can do nothing with one, he is all the more embarrassed."
