一日六人新到，師問云：「還有作家禪客麼？」參頭云：「和尚道什麼？」師云：「點即不到。」僧擬議，師便喝，僧無語，師云：「龍頭蛇尾。」復問第二箇，僧指參頭云：「和尚問，何不祇對？」師與一掌，僧無語，師復指云：「第三。」其僧茫然，師云：「一狀領過。」

One day six newly arrived monks came. The Master asked, "Are there any adept Chan travelers among you?" The head traveler said, "What did the upādhyāya say?" The Master said, "Pointed to, but not reached." The monk hesitated; the Master shouted. The monk was speechless. The Master said, "Dragon's head, snake's tail." He then asked the second monk; the monk pointed to the head traveler and said, "The upādhyāya asks; why do you not reply?" The Master gave him a slap. The monk was speechless. The Master again pointed and said, "Third!" That monk was bewildered. The Master said, "A single charge sheet accepted." Then he pushed them out.
