上堂，僧問：「如何是佛？」師云：「頭鬅鬙，耳卓朔。」學云：「不會。」師云：「堪笑堪悲。」復云：「不著便也不奈何，爾從江南江北來，笠子下為什麼拶破洛浦遍參底？」

Ascending the hall, a monk asked, "What is the Buddha?" The Master said, "Hair disheveled, ears standing erect." The student said, "I do not understand." The Master said, "Laughable and pitiable." He further said, "If you do not catch the opportunity, nothing can be done with you. Coming from south of the river and north of the river, why under your rainhat have you squeezed to death the all-visiting Luopu?"
