上堂云：「巢知風，穴知雨，靈利衲僧，未可相許。若問如何？苦哉佛陀。參。」

Ascending the hall, he said: "The nest knows the wind; the burrow knows the rain. Clever patch-robed monks must not be granted approval. If you ask 'how so?'—bitter misery, O Buddha! Participate!"
