2.68

師一日晚參，於僧堂前立云：「不打鼓，上去不得；把却門，入來不得。速道速道。」大眾，眼目定動，師以拄杖一時打趁。

One day during evening instruction, the Master stood before the Sangha Hall and said, “Without beating the drum, you cannot come up; holding the door fast, you cannot enter. Speak quickly, speak quickly!” When the great assembly’s eyes wavered, the Master drove them all out with his staff at once.
