3.38

舉：「馬大師令智藏馳書上徑山，山接書開見一圓相，於中下一點。國師聞，舉云：『欽師猶被馬師惑。』」師云：「徑山被惑且致，若將呈似國師，別作箇什麼伎倆，免被惑去？有老宿云：『當時坐却便休。』亦有道：『但與劃破。』若與麼，只是不識著，敢謂天下老師各具金剛眼睛廣作神通變化還免得麼？雪竇見處也要諸人共知，只者馬師當時畫出，早自惑了也。」

He cited: "Great Master Ma ordered Zhizang to carry a letter up to Jingshan. Jingshan received the letter, opened it, saw a circle, and put a dot inside it. The National Teacher heard of this, cited it, and said, 'Master Qin was still deluded by Master Ma.'" The Master said, "Setting aside Jingshan being deluded, if it were presented to the National Teacher, what other trick would he have used to avoid being deluded? An old elder said, 'He should simply have sat on it at that time and stopped.' Another said, 'He should just have slashed through it.' If so, that is merely not recognizing it. Dare I ask: do the old masters of all quarters each possess vajra eyes and extensively display spiritual transformations—can they still avoid it? As for Xuedou's insight, I also want everyone to know: just that Master Ma drew it at that time, he was already deluded himself!"
