3.51

舉：「僧問雪峯：『聲聞人見性，如夜見月；菩薩人見性，如晝見日。未審和尚見性如何？』峯打三下，其僧復問巖頭，巖頭打三掌。」師云：「應病設藥，且與三下；若據令而行，合打多少？」

He cited: "A monk asked Xuefeng, ''A śrāvaka's seeing nature is like seeing the moon at night; a bodhisattva's seeing nature is like seeing the sun by day.' I wonder, how is the Upādhyāya's seeing nature?' Xuefeng struck him three times. The monk asked Yantou again, and Yantou gave him three slaps." The Master said, "Prescribing medicine according to the disease, he provisionally gave him three blows; if executed according to the directive, how many strikes should he receive?"
